A woman is dead and a policeman is being treated at hospital following a domestic dispute at the Masemure housing scheme in Little London, Westmoreland on Thursday.
The deceased is 38-year-old Janice Francis, a cosmetologist of the same address.
The detective constable was shot in the hand during the incident.
It is reported that about 7:50 p.m., the policeman arrived home and was pounced on by Ms. Francis, the mother of his child.
Ms. Francis, who was armed with a machete, attacked the policeman and managed to disarm him of his firearm.
A tussle ensued during which the cop was shot in the right hand. They continued to tussle and Ms. Francis was shot several times in the upper body.
She was later pronounced dead at hospital and the policeman admitted.
