Citrus farmers are being urged not to abandon the industry despite the challenges posed by the Citrus Greening Disease.
Peter McConnell, the Managing Director of Trade Winds Citrus Limited, asserts that current world prices for citrus will make it profitable for farmers to remain in business.
"World supply of oranges is down, resulting in the world price for oranges and citrus products (being) up, so while the production of citrus is now harder to do, more expensive, more tedious and intensive, the rewards are there. I’m encouraging citrus growers to make use of the information that is being made available to us," Mr. McConnell said.
He was speaking Tuesday evening, July 5 on RJR’s daily current affairs discussion programme Beyond the Headlines.
