Bahamas Police Commissioner calls senior officer's U.S. arrest 'devastating'

Bahamas Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander says the arrest of a senior police officer in the United States on charges linked to the conspiracy to import cocaine as well as possession and use of firearms last week was not just shocking; it was devastating.

Mr Fernander said he was travelling with his family in Florida when he received the information that Chief Superintendent Elvis Curtis had been arrested and was scheduled to be arraigned in federal court.

He said Curtis had also been charged with firearm conspiracy and that he had met with a senior police officer and the wife of the arrested police officer at the courthouse where the arraignment took place.
