Health officials in Dominica have launched a public
information campaign even as they say they do not intend to alarm citizens
about a possible outbreak of dengue fever.
Environmental health officer, Sylvester St. Ville, said the authorities were also taking the necessary precautions regarding the reporting of dengue cases on the island.
Information Officer in the Ministry of Health, Emmanuel Prince, said the authorities were not taking any chances, noting that neighbouring islands have reported major outbreaks of dengue fever.
Officials in the neighbouring French islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe say there have been over one thousand cases in those islands.
Puerto Rico and Jamaica are also grappling with an outbreak of dengue fever.
The Ministry of Health said the information campaign would be supplemented by the fumigation of communities to destroy the Aedes Aegyti mosquito, responsible for the dengue virus.
