Guyana's Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony, has been elected President of the Pan American Health Organization Executive Committee for a one-year term.
A statement from the Ministry of Health said he was elected during PAHO's 61st Directing Council meeting that ended in Washington, D.C last weekend.
He will lead the organization's mission to improve and safeguard the health and well-being of the peoples of the Americas.
Dr Anthony reiterated his commitment to enhancing PAHO's ideals, stressing the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing urgent public health issues, including pandemic preparedness, equitable healthcare access, and health system strengthening.
The statement said Guyana is confident that his presidency will significantly advance the health priorities of the Americas during this crucial period.
