A new premier has been installed in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Former Home Affairs Minister Galmo Williams took the oath
of office Tuesday, replacing Michael Misick, who resigned Monday, a week
earlier than expected.
Mr. Misick said he was stepping down early to give his successor more time to set up a new government.
His statement came on the heels of an interim report by a Commission of Inquiry, which pointed to the "high probability of systemic corruption" in the TCI administration.
But Mr. Williams may not be Premier for very long.
Britain has announced plans to suspend the territory's constitution and restore direct rule in the coming days, as a result of the corruption allegations.
