Thompson-Herah confirmed for Prefontaine Classic

2-time Olympic sprint double champion Elaine Thompson-Herah is set to have an explosive season opener in the women's 100m at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meet this Friday in Eugene, Oregon.

The 100m Olympic record holder will go up against world champion Sha'Carri Richardson in a much anticipated race.

It's the first time since last September's Diamond League final, also held in Eugene, that the 5-time Olympic gold medallist and Richardson will meet in the 100m, with Thompson-Herah clipping Richardson to run a season's best 10.79 seconds for third. Also set to feature Ivorian Marie-Josee Talou-Smith and St  Lucian Julian Alfred.

Meanwhile, it was at this same track in August 2021 that Thompson-Herah ran a blistering 10.54 seconds in the 100m, to solidify her status as the fastest woman alive, with only Florence Griffith-Joyner world record of 10.49 seconds better it.

In the meantime, other Jamaicans down to compete so far are Olympic champion Hansle Parchment in the men's 110m hurdles; world champion Danielle Williams in the women's 100m hurdles and Natoya Goule-Toppin in the women's 800m, while Shanieka Ricketts and Kimberly Williams will contest women's triple jump.
