Jamaican entertainers Gramps Morgan, Etana, Sean Paul, Jesse Royal and Spice, as well as Virginia based reggae band Soja, are this year's nominees in the Best Reggae Grammy Album category.
The two women have made a historic mark on music in the last year as Etana released her genre blending album Pamoja and Spice her long awaited debut project 10.
Morgan was nominated for his album Positive Vibrations, Jesse Royal for Royal, Sean Paul for his project Live n Livin and Soja for Beauty in the Silence.
The Recording Academy made the announcement via livestream on Tuesday, the first year selections have been made after some sweeping changes.
Earlier this year, the academy ditched anonymous selection committees and now allows its more than 11,000 voters to chose nominees in certain categories.
Other nominees
Olivia Rodrigo is the front-runner for next year's Grammys, with nominations in all four of the main categories.
The 18-year-old is up for best album, best new artiste, record of the year and song of the year.
Jon Batiste, who won an Oscar in April for Soul, received 11 nominations followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and H.E.R. with eight nods each.
New York rapper Jay-Z received three nominations, bringing his career tally to 83, the most Grammy nods by an individual.
BTS, Lil Nas X, Jazmine Sullivan, Cardi B, Meghan thee Stallion, Drake, Kanye West and The Weeknd are also among the nominees.
The 64th Grammy Awards, dubbed "Music's biggest night", will take place on Monday, January 31, live from the soon-to-be renamed Staples Center in Los Angeles.
