Following a six-year hiatus, VH1 Hip Hop Honors is making a comeback with a special salute to Queen Latifah.
The live event will celebrate all-female trailblazers and pioneers who have made their mark in the male-dominated genre.
Queen Latifah has been a reigning force in hip-hop and beyond. The artist/actress secured a Grammy Award for Best Solo Rap Performance in 1994 as well as several nominations including Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2005 and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in 2008.
Her third album, Black Reign, was the first album by a female MC ever to go gold.
In Hollywood, her acting chops have earned her a high reputation as she recently nabbed a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Mini-series.
Since its start in 2004, Hip Hop Honors has paid homage to hip-hop veterans including Public Enemy, Salt-N-Pepa, 2Pac, Snoop Dogg and MC Lyte.
The ceremony will air Monday, July 11, live from New York.
