BOJ received 481 complaints against deposit-taking institutions in 2023

The Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) says it received 481 complaints relating to licensed deposit-taking institutions in 2023.

The central bank says this represents a 64.7 per cent in the number of complaints, compared to 292 reported for the previous year.

The BOJ says the majority were account related complaints, accounting for 35 per cent or 168 of the total reports.

Complaints in this category largely reflected challenges encountered by customers due to the expanded use of electronic banking channels.

Fraud/impropriety complaints were next, with 147 complaints.

That's an increase of 227 per cent over the 45 reported for 2022.

The BOJ says it continued to facilitate the resolution of complaints submitted, but recorded a decline in the resolution rate to 62.2 per cent at the end of 2023.

By the end of 2022, the resolution rate was 77.4 per cent.
