Cyber security threats on the rise

Companies are being encouraged to boost their cyber security framework, in a bid to reduce losses and possibly save on costs.

The US based cyber security firm Fortinet says an estimated 3.14 million professionals are needed to fill the global cyber security workforce gap.

Its 2023 Global Cybersecurity Skills Gap Report found that the number of organizations experiencing five or more breaches increased by 53 per cent from 2021 to 2022.

Fortinet says this comes as many short-staffed cybersecurity teams are burdened trying to keep up with thousands of daily threat alerts, and in some cases, manage inadequate infrastructure.

The report says, as a result of unfilled Information Technology positions due to a cyber skills shortage, 68 per cent of organizations say they face additional cyber risks.
