One local pharmaceutical company has no interest in manufacturing COVID vaccine

At least one local pharmaceutical company says it's not interested in manufacturing the covid-19 vaccine.

Despite calls for Jamaican companies to participate in the vaccine manufacturing value chain, CEO of  listed company Medical Disposables and Supplies, Kurt Boothe, has signalled that he does not foresee his company going that route.

”No immediate plans for direct manufacturing as such - at the moment we are concentrating on our core, which i distribution - but as it stands now, no immediate plans for the COVID vaccine , at this time,” he said.

He disclosed that regulatory hurdles would also make it very challenging for the company to venture into that market.
