118 active COVID-19 cases among prison inmates and staff

There are currently 118 active cases of COVID-19 among workers and inmates at Jamaica's correctional facilities.
 
The latest figure was disclosed on Thursday by Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security Zavia Mayne, as he handed over 500 self-test kits to the Department of Correctional Services.
 
Mr. Mayne revealed that there are 94 active COVID-19 cases among inmates and 24 active cases among staff at correctional facilities. 
 
He said the infected people have been isolated. 
 
So far, 498 inmates and 421 staff have recovered from the virus. 
 
Recently, human rights advocacy group Stand Up For Jamaica renewed the call for the release of certain categories of inmates in light of the outbreak of COVID-19 at correctional facilities.
