American Airlines has announced plans to expand its operations in Jamaica later this year with more flights between the island and key US cities.
Starting December 18, the airline will double its service between Ian Fleming International Airport and Miami, offering two daily flights.
It will also increase daily flights from Kingston's Norman Manley Airport to Miami, from three to four.
Vice President of International and In-Flight Dining Operations Jose Frig says the airline is excited to strengthen its presence in Jamaica.
This summer, American Airlines is operating 15 daily flights into Jamaica from three US cities, a 17 per cent increase over last year.
It also plans to offer 20 peak daily departures from Jamaica to seven US destinations, including Charlotte, Boston, Dallas, Fort Worth, New York, Miami, Chicago, and Philadelphia, representing a 20 per cent growth in service.
State Minister in the Ministry of Tourism, Senator Delano Seiveright, welcomed American Airlines' announcement. He said more direct airlift means stronger travel and tourism connections, especially in the winter tourist season.
"So it's a huge boost for Jamaica, huge boost for tourism and the wider economy. And our people will benefit through more jobs, more opportunities,
more business opportunities across the board. So it's very good, very positive news for Jamaica," he reiterated.
