Bahia Principe says worker unrest has been resolved

Jonay Guerra, Managing Director, Bahia Principe Hotel

The management of Bahia Principe Hotel in Runaway Bay, St Ann has reported that issues affecting workers who threatened strike action have been resolved.

This development followed expressions of dissatisfaction by some members of staff last Friday after they received their salary

Some workers, who said they were expecting an increase in their pay last week, complained that the promised increase was not reflected in their pay.

But,  Jonay Guerra, Managing Director of the Hotel, told Radio Jamaica News that there had been a misunderstanding on the part of some members of staff about the increase, arising from the fact that this month's pay was one day short of the normal pay cycle.

That anamoly will be corrected in the next fortnight's payment, "when they will get this other additional day," he explained.

"Normally, every fortnight, we pay on the 15th and the 30th, but because the 30th comes on a weekend (this month), that's why we pay one day in advance, so it comes with one day less," which the hotel's management is promising to include in the next fortnight's payment.
