Businessman killed, baby wounded in Westmoreland robbery

A three month old baby was among four persons shot on Sunday during an attempted robbery on Rose Street in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.

One of those shot – a businessman - was killed. He has been identified as 58 year old Devon Clarke of Darliston, Westmoreland.

The attack took place about 1:30 in the afternoon when gunmen entered an establishment and demanded money. When their demand was not met, they shot Mr. Clarke as well as a woman and her baby.

There was a struggle between one of the gunmen and a security guard, during which the guard was also shot.

The gunmen escaped on a motorcycle.

The police were called and the injured persons taken to hospital, where Mr Clarke was pronounced dead.

The police say the baby's injury is not considered life threatening.
