Changes coming to JCF's Protective Services operations

Changes are coming to aspects of  the Protective Services operations of  the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF. This is in response to the recent arrest of  a policeman who was assigned to the residence of  Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller.

RJR News first reported on Wednesday that Constable Kenneth Reid is now before the courts on suspicion of  being involved in gang activities. Deputy Commissioner in charge of  the Security Services Portfolio, James Golding, confirmed in an interview with RJR News that an analysis will be conducted on the system. He explained that its only prudent to review any system if a weakness is found.

Constable Reid was charged in May after allegedly being involved in the Spanish Town based Klansman Gang.
His girlfriend, Kerry-Ann Smith, and another accused gang member,  Sheldon Walters otherwise called “Termite,” have also been chargedunder the anti-gang legislation.

In the meantime, DCP Golding says adequate background checks are done on police personnel who work with the Prime Minister and other government officials. He states that the process is an ongoing one, and some level of  monitoring takes place.
