China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) is expected to ramp up work on the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project.
The commitment was given following a meeting between senior personnel from CHEC and head of the National Works Agency, E.G. Hunter.
Mr. Hunter, who is directly supervising the work on the Southern Coastal Highway project, summoned the head of CHEC's regional operations to a meeting in Kingston.
The CHEC team led, by its Deputy General Manager for the Americas Division in Panama, Huazhong Jiang, gave assurances that resources will be made available in order to improve productivity.
Aspects of the more than 120 kilometre highway construction have been stymied, owing to several challenges, including slow pace of work and a lack of proper maintenance of work zones.
Mr. Jiang gave assurances that activities on all the projects will be increased in the coming days and weeks, as CHEC is pushing to give public access to more reconstructed areas.
Among the areas where traffic is expected to be rerouted by this Friday is the stretch of road between Marabella and 11 Miles, Bull Bay, Thomas.
CHEC is also expected to pay closer attention to the work of its sub-contractors, two of whom have already been separated from the company.
There are 10 sub-contracts already issued by CHEC to local companies as part of the agreement with the government for the building out of the road.
