Jamaica recorded eight COVID-19 deaths on Friday, the highest single-day death toll since the first positive case was confirmed on March 10. This brings the country's death toll to 88.
In its latest COVID-19 Clinical Management Summary released this morning (Saturday), the Ministry of Health & Wellness said seven of the eight deceased suffered from comorbidities (underlying health conditions).
Six of the deceased were from addresses in Kingston & St. Andrew, one from Manchester and the other from St. Catherine, with ages ranging from 22 to 92.
The country also recorded 131 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, with six of them being classified as critically ill.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in Jamaica to 5,854.
There are 4,058 active cases.
