The Department of Correctional Services can better respond to situations that may require use of force after it received riot gear on Wednesday.
The US Embassy donated a total of 600 riot batons, riot baton holders, riot helmets with visors, riot shield, goggles and raincoats with hoods. Fifty handcuffs were also given to the department.
Pearnel Charles Jr., State Minister in the Ministry of National Security, said the donation brings the Department of Correctional Services in line with international baseline standards for the treatment of inmates.
This is also in keeping with guidance on methods which might be used for restraint under specific circumstances.
