Dwayne Vaz insists he has no outstanding document for Integrity Commission

Dwayne Vaz, speaking Tuesday on Beyond the Headlines

Dwayne Vaz, former MP for Westmoreland Central, is insisting that he has no outstanding document for the Integrity Commission.

His comment follows Tuesday's tabling of the Integrity Commission report which states that he is to be charged for failing to file his statutory declarations for 2019.

Mr Vaz said in March 2020 he filed his initial Statutory Declaration for the year ending 2019.

He explained that additional information was requested but he had challenges with getting the information as his accountant died during the Covid-19 pandemic, but that he remained in constant communication with the Commission and sought extensions to gather the required documentation.

According to Mr Vaz, on May 18, 2021 the Integrity Commission confirmed that his Statutory Declaration up to December 31, 2019 was completed.

Speaking Tuesday evening on Radio Jamaica'a Beyond the Headlines, he disclosed that last month he received a summons to appear in the Half Way Tree Parish Court on charges of failing to provide required information to the Integrity Commission.

But, contrary to that assertion, he's maintaining that he had submitted the document, "and I have the letter to prove that it was filed."

He said, upon his providing that letter in court, "the lawyer for the Integrity Commission said that they did not see that letter on their file, so we gave it to them, and it was at that point (that) they said they had additional information they wanted to discuss with my lawyer, so they can decide how to go fowrard."

It was in furtherance of that consideration, he said, that the decision was made for the matter to be heard again in court on April 30.
