ENDS programme to be reviewed to determine scope for expansion

The E-commerce National Delivery Solution (ENDS) programme will be reviewed on Tuesday to determine the level to which it can be extended to other parishes.

The pilot programme has been taking place in Portmore, St. Catherine since Friday.

There have been mixed responses from businesses and customers.

Matthew Samuda, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of National Security, says the open registration portal should be operational by Wednesday which will allow more businesses to participate this weekend.

"Several meetings will be had today to determine how quickly we can get into Kingston and St. Andrew, St. James, and certainly, how quickly we can get into rural parishes," he revealed on TVJ's Smile Jamaica on Tuesday morning.

The web-based system is designed to enable the quick-service sector to continue operating during the hours of the curfew, up to midnight, by facilitating delivery of orders and online payment.

Mr. Samuda sought to dissuade criminals from preying on delivery persons, reiterating that the programme is cashless.

"You're not supposed to be running down a taxi man or a bike man in the hopes of getting any cash, so I hope that deters some of those who seek to do what they shouldn't do," he appealed.

The St. Catherine South Police say on Saturday they received unconfirmed reports of attempted robberies.
