Joseph John, the former Haitian senator linked to the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, has waived his right to an extradition hearing in Jamaica.
When the matter was called up in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on Thursday morning, Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jeremy Taylor told the court that the US government has requested his extradition.
Mr. Taylor said a provisional warrant of arrest was executed on Mr. John on Tuesday.
Mr. John signed consent to the extradition request in court on Thursday morning.
Mr. John, his wife and two sons have been before the court on immigration charges since January.
According to the prosecution, the United States is only interested in the former Haitian senator.
Mr. John and his family are to return to court on April 5 regarding illegal entry charges.
