Family of former Haitian senator to be sent back home

The way is now clear for the wife and children of former Haitian senator Joseph John, who is linked to last year's assassination of the President of Haiti, to be sent back home.

Senior Parish Court Judge, Lori-Ann Cole Montaque, on Monday issued an order for the three individuals to be removed from Jamaica after they pleaded guilty to illegal entry.

The decision was made despite a plea from the attorney representing the family, Donahue Martin.

Last month, the Ministry of National Security rejected an application to grant Mr. John's wife and two sons refugee status.

The family was arrested in St. Elizabeth in January.

Mr. John, who was extradited to the United States earlier this month, is awaiting trial.
