A 15 year old student is dead and a 19 year old driver under investigation following a motor vehicle crash in St Thomas on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Alima Quarry, a student of Holy Childhood High School and a resident of the Montpellier Housing Scheme, Yallahs.
It's reported that, about 3:00 p.m., the 15 year-old student exited a taxi and was attempting to cross the Knightsville main road when she was hit by a Toyota Corolla motor car driven by the 19 year-old mechanic.
She was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital where she was treated and later transferred to a medical facility in Kingston for further treatment, but later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver was initially arrested and charged for several traffic offences including Not having a Drivers License and Driving Without Insurance.
He was released on station bail.
But following her death, the police upgraded their investigation to a case of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving.
Quarry's death brings to fifteen, the number of road fatalities in St Thomas since the start of the year.
