Figueroa wants more aggressive lobbying for global COVID-19 vaccine equity

A leading medical expert is urging Caribbean leaders to be more aggressive on the international scene to drive home the importance of equity in COVID-19 vaccine distribution.

Professor Peter Figueroa, Chairman of PAHO's Regional Immunization Technical Advisory Group, is urging this approach in light of reports that some developed countries are hoarding COVID-19 vaccines.

This is hampering developing countries, like Jamaica, from accessing the medication quickly.

Professor Figueroa wants Caribbean leaders to call for a special general assembly of the United Nations to draw more attention to the issue.
