Fraud Squad investigators are to lay criminal charges against the Medical Associates Hospital as they continue their probe into an alleged multi-million dollar fraud involving the institution.
This information was disclosed Thursday when former Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, Dr. Michael Banbury, appeared in the St. Andrew Parish Court on fraud charges.
Dr. Banbury was charged in February with several counts of forgery, uttering forged documents and conspiracy following allegations of an illegal share transaction involving more than $100 million.
Two other members of the Board of Medical Associates were questioned by detectives in March.
A file has since been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to rule whether other members of the Board of the Hospital should be charged with fraud.
Dr. Banbury is to return to court on June 20.
It's alleged that the Board signed off on the transfer of more than 400,000 shares from a company named Community Medical Services to the Medical Associates Hospital, last year.
Retired medical practitioner, Dr. Beula Grace Hayes, the operator of Community Medical Services, filed a complaint with the police alleging fraud in the share transfer.
