There has been an ease in the pile up of garbage following the recent heavy rains.

Audley Gordon, Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), told Wednesday's post Cabinet media briefing that the backlog was reduced following special operations.

Mr. Gordon said the problem areas were in Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine and St. Thomas.

He said the backlog was cut by about 80 per cent, moving from more than 200 loads to just more than 20.

The operations took place over two weekends.
