The St Catherine North Police are investigating the rape and murder of a nine year-old girl at Job Lane in Spanish Town on Friday.
It's reported that the child and her younger sister were left at home by their mother while she went to work.
It's further reported that, shortly after their mother's departure, the younger sibling ran to a female vendor in the community, who kept her for the day, thinking that her sister was at school.
About 5:00 p.m., another sibling discovered the nine year-old's body inside a barrel at the house during a search for her.
Jamaica is currently observing Child Month, under the theme: "Act Now! Stand Against Child Abuse and Exploitation."
