Girlfriend of man who admitted to killing Jamaican-Canadian couple freed

Nekkia Thompson, who was charged along with her boyfriend for the killing an elderly Jamaican-Canadian couple in Retreat, St. Thomas three years ago has been freed.

Miss Thompson was acquitted on Friday morning in the Home Circuit Court after the prosecution offered no evidence against her.

Her boyfriend Fabian Skervin was on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment for killing 81-year-old Melbourne Flake and his 70-year-old wife Etta.

They were found dead at their vacation home on January 9, 2018.

Skervin, who had been employed by the couple, confessed to killing them.

He will have to serve 32 years and four months before he is eligible for parole.

His attorney Anthony Williams has indicated that he will appeal the sentence.
