People's National Party President Mark Golding says the party has been strategic in the selection of its candidates to contest the general election this year.

Mr. Golding says the prospective candidates will be able to smoothly transition into ministerial roles should the party win the election.

The party has said its full slate of candidates is in place.

Addressing a PNP conference in Cave Valley, in the St. Ann South Western constituency on Sunday, Mr. Golding said the party has done the work and is ready for the announcement of the election date.

"We cannot take this thing lightly. They don't intend to give it to us. We are going to have to do the work and do what it takes to make it happen. And I ask you South West St. Ann, do you believe that we can make it happen? Are you ready for a new government? Are you ready for the People's National Party to assume government? I want Andrew [Holness] to hear that in Beverly Hills tonight," said the PNP president as his supporters cheered.

Mr. Golding said the PNP has assembled a strong team with "people of vision, people of energy" who are "doing the research and the analysis to know what the problems are and where the solutions lie".
