Guyana on Friday announced the immediate lifting of the nationwide curfew that had been put in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus two years ago.
The National COVID-19 Task Force Secretariat in a brief statement said, in addition to lifting the curfew, all swimming pools are permitted to operate at 50 per cent capacity.
It said all swimmers must be fully vaccinated.
It, however, cautioned all Guyanese nationals to demonstrate responsible behaviour.
On Thursday night, President Irfaan Ali indicated that the government was considering the removal of the curfew.
Mr. Ali said many studies have shown that lockdowns and curfews do little to curb the spread of COVID-19 that has killed 1,188 Guyanese and infected more than 62,000 citizens since March 2020.
