Haiti: PM appoints council amid push to hold general election

Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry has formally appointed a three-member High Council of Transition.

The council will be tasked with preparing the country for its long-overdue elections, with a population of more than 11 million people.

The members will be responsible for civil society, political parties, and the private sector, respectively.

Haiti has failed to hold elections since the July 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.

Prime Minister Henry assumed power shortly after Moïse's death and promised that his administration would hold elections.
