Haitian gunmen release pastor, one other who had been abducted

Gunmen in Haiti have released two people, including a pastor, who were abducted 23 days ago.

However, the authorities did not say whether a ransom was paid for Pastor Jean Ferrer Michel and businessman Norman Wiener.

Pastor Michel was abducted by heavily armed men wearing police uniform.

Last month, 60 year-old Deacon Sylner Lafaille was shot and killed as gunmen attempted to abduct him and his wife.

Search on for missionaries

But the search continues for 17 American and Canadian missionaries and their families who were abducted on October 16.

Their abductors have demanded a US$17 million ransom.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has said President Joe Biden is being updated daily on the situation.

A significant number of law enforcement and hostage recovery specialists from the US are working closely with Haitian authorities to secure the release of those abducted.
