High stakes PNP Parliamentary Group meeting set for next Monday

PNP General Secretary Julian Robinson

The Secretariat of the People's National Party (PNP) has organized a meeting for next Monday with the Parliamentary Group, amid speculation about the tenure of Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips.

The decision was made last Monday evening during a meeting of the Party's Executive.

PNP General Secretary Julian Robinson said the venue for the meeting has not yet been determined.

He downplayed the significance of the meeting in respect of speculation pertaining to disquiet arising from the letter to the PNP President, telling Radio Jamaica News that "most of the meeting about looking at the political organization; the preparations that need to be made for an election, and ensuring that all systems are in place for that."

Peter Bunting, who last year challenged Dr Phillips for the presidency of the PNP, was present at Monday’s meeting.

Fifteen PNP MPs last week wrote to Dr Phillips complaining of a lack of meetings since his illness and calling for urgent talks to discuss the Party's future.
