Hundreds of Jamaicans are at risk of losing jobs as problems at the Criminal Records Office impact the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.
One company alone is reportedly awaiting reports for more than 1,500 prospective employees.
The police office on Duke Street in Kingston was shut down three weeks ago because of air quality concerns.
The office was relocated to Orange Street on Monday but new concerns have emerged which have affected productivity.
Gloria Henry, President of the Business Process Industry Association of Jamaica, said some companies have been unable to employ trainees for weeks.
Some companies, she said, have paid for criminal background checks since early August and are still unable to get the reports so the trainees can not be given permanent employment.
Companies are now facing the possibility of losing contracts because they do not have the required personnel.
Ms Henry has appealed to the National Security Ministry to take action to have the backlog of police reports cleared urgently.
