The Electoral Office of Jamaica is considering its next move after independent candidate in St. Andrew North West, Rohan Banks, withdrew from the by-election set for Friday.

Mr. Banks reportedly submitted a paper on Wednesday stating that he intends to withdraw his candidacy.

Director of Elections Glasspole Brown says the required notice of 11 days was not given by Mr. Banks.

"He will remain on the ballot because we can't reprint the ballot at this stage," said Mr. Brown.

Mr. Banks was one of three candidates vying for the seat which became vacant following the resignation of former Member of Parliament Dr. Nigel Clarke.

The other two are Carl Marshall, also an independent candidate and Duane Smith of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party.
