Opening of new KFC restaurant in Christiana delayed amid alleged building breaches

Mayor of Mandeville Donovan Mitchell and building developer Adian Peart

Despite fast food restaurant KFC Jamaica receiving the greenlight to open a franchise in Christiana, Manchester, Mayor of Mandeville Donovan Mitchell says such plans will be postponed amid alleged building breaches.

The newly built KFC is being housed in a building the Mandeville Mayor says has been constructed larger than initially approved.

In light of this, a stop order was issued to the developer, Adian Peart, on Thursday.

Mr. Peart and KFC Jamaica say the restaurant was approved by the Manchester Municipal Corporation and was scheduled to open next week.

But Mr. Mitchell says while permission may have been previously granted, there are issues with the soil type as well as other matters that must be addressed to ensure full compliance with building codes.

Mr. Peart said issues with the building were already being addressed prior to the stop order.

He added that the stop order being applied to the section of the building that houses the KFC seems unreasonable since that section had been approved.

The developer believes he is being victimised and his political alignment is at the centre of the stop order.
