The 14-year-old student of Irwin High School in St. James, who was arrested last week in connection with the stabbing death of a fellow student at the institution, has been charged.

The boy has been charged with the murder of 15-year-old Raniel Plummer.

Superintendent Eron Samuels, head of the St. James Police, told Radio Jamaica News that the charges were laid on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old is to be taken to court next week to answer to the charge.

It's reported that Raniel and the 14-year-old boy had an altercation at school last Thursday.

The 14-year-old left the school compound and later returned with a group of boys.

Raniel was attacked and stabbed in the chest at the school gate in view of other students.

He died while being treated in hospital.

The police had reported that more students would be questioned in connection with the incident.

Education Minister Fayval Williams visited the school on Tuesday.
