Israel launches retaliatory strike against Iran

There are reports that Israel has launched a strike against Iran in retaliation for its weekend attack.

ABC News reported late Thursday night that Israeli missiles have hit a site in Iran, while Iranian state media reported an explosion in the centre of the country.

It comes days after Iran launched a retaliatory drone strike on Israel.

State media reported that Iran suspended flights over the cities of Isfahan, Shiraz and Tehran.

Several Iranian nuclear sites are located in Isfahan province, including Natanz, centrepiece of Iran's uranium enrichment programme.

Iran's Fars News and other outlets reported that air defences were seemingly activated near Isfahan in response to small drones.

According to Fars, Iranian air defences were also activated in Tabriz in northwestern Iran after a suspicious object was spotted in the air.

Bloomberg News reported that Israeli officials notified the US on Thursday that they planned to launch a strike in the next 24 to 48 hours.
