The local health sector is to receive another batch of Cuban health professionals in the coming weeks.
This followed an agreement between the Jamaican government and its Cuban counterpart, which was signed last week.
The letter of intent for a technical cooperation agreement for the continued provision of a medical brigade of health professionals to Jamaica was signed by Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton and Cuba Public Health Minister Dr Jose Angel Miranda.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of a health conference being held in Havana, Cuba.
Dr Tufton said the medical brigade, primarily nurses, will help to fill the growing gap of nurses leaving public hospitals in Jamaica.
He added that an eye care programme between both countries, which was suspended due to the covid pandemic, is to resume as well, under the new agreement.
