Jasmine Deen investigation still on - police

Dennis Brooks, Senior Communication Strategist, Jamaica Constabulary Force

The police are still investigating the disappearance of University of the West Indies student Jasmine Deen, more than a year after she was last seen.

The police say they are unable at this point to lay murder charges against the two suspects in the case because of lack of sufficient evidence.

Tamar Henry, 40, and 36-year-old Gregor Wright were arrested and charged in April 2020 after they were allegedly found with Miss Deen's belongings.

They were charged with Possession of  Identity Information, eight counts of  unauthorized access to computer data and simple larceny.

Dennis Brooks, Senior Communication Strategist for the Jamaica Constabulary Force, told Radio Jamaica News that the Director of Public Prosecutions had ruled that "the evidence presented to her has not met the threshold the lay murder charges against the two men," but had also given the police "guidance on how the investigations may proceed in that regard."

Accordingly, he said the investigation was proceeding, in an effort to "bring justice and closure to this matter."

Jasmine, who was blind, went missing on February 27, 2020. She was last seen entering a taxi near the UWI.
