A 45-year-old concessionaire who operated the canteen at the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) headquarters in St. Catherine was acquitted of murder before the St. Catherine Circuit Court on Wednesday.
Duane Lyn was charged following a fight which resulted in the death of his employee.
The prosecution had alleged that during a heated argument on March 27, 2017 over the care of the canteen, Mr. Lyn used a knife to stab Raymond McDonald in his chest.
Mr. McDonald died at hospital.
Two other employees claimed to have witnessed what transpired but gave different versions of the incident to the police.
King's Counsel Peter Champagnie, who represented Mr. Lyn, had maintained that his client acted in self-defence.
When Mr. Lyn appeared before the St. Catherine Circuit Court, prosecutors conceded that they would be unable to successfully mount a case against him.
It was also disclosed that the witnesses could not be located.
As a result, Lyn who was on bail, was freed.
