Kevin Smith had been convicted of sexual assault in Canada, DPP reveals

DPP Paula Llewellyn

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn has disclosed that Kevin Smith, who was the pastor of Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries, was convicted in Canada in 2007 on a sexual assault charge.

She was speaking on Tuesday in an interview with The Gleaner.

The DPP said Mr. Smith was sentenced for sexually assaulting a 21-year-old man and served six months in prison.

"There was also a two-years discretionary probationary period as well as probation orders made for some 10 years," she added.

Mr. Smith died on Monday in a car crash on the Linstead bypass in St. Catherine.

He was being transferred from Montego Bay to Kingston by police officers after being arrested on October 17, following the deaths of two members of his Montego Bay-based religious organisation in a cult-like ritual.
