Attorney-at-Law Bert Samuels has disclosed that the four fishermen who returned to Jamaica on Thursday after being acquitted in a US court will be seeking compensation for the treatment they received while locked up abroad.
They will also be seeking compensation for their vessel, Lady Lawla, which was destroyed by the US coast guard.
The men had been in custody for weeks despite an order for their release from the Southern District Court of Florida.
Mr Samuels said, while the men are elated at their release, the manner in which they were treated was unacceptable.
He will seek to settle the matter through negotiation in the first instance.
