Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs Marlene Malahoo Forte on Tuesday delivered a damning assessment of the Integrity Commission Act as she called for the law to be rewritten.

Her view followed an exchange between lawmakers and officials from the Integrity Commission about how the law is being used.

"Those who will recall, I expressed the view that the law needed to be completely rewritten, that the model needed to be rethought, and I am of that solid view. And that is what I am going to take away from this meeting, with a recommendation for implementation," she said, urging that the work "needs to be accelerated".

Lawmakers believe sections of the Integrity Commission Act are problematic including to whom the commissioners are accountable and whether parliamentarians or public officials under investigation would be in breach of the law if they comment publicly about their case.
