Measures in place to deal with anticipated rush on passport office

Measures have been implemented by the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) is anticipation of  a run on its offices following yesterday's announcement that passport fees will be increased.

The measures will be in effect this week.

Between Monday and Friday, PICA will only receive applications from customers whose passports have expired or will expire in less than six months and from first-time applicants.

In addition, the agency will not offer expedited services during the period except for emergency cases.

With the exception of  time sensitive cases, customers applying for immigration and citizenship services are being asked to delay their visit to PICA offices until next week.

A statement issued on Monday morning said the measures are applicable at all PICA offices.

Persons who are scheduled to pick up their passport at PICA’s head office on Constant Spring Road on Wednesday through to Friday are advised to go to the Police Officers’ Club on Hope Road to collect their document.

Effective next Tuesday the cost for a regular passport will move from J$4,500 to $6,500 while the rate for a passport for a minor will move from $2 700 to $4,000

Persons applying for a replacement passport will have to fork out $11,500 up from $9,500 while a similar transaction for a minor's passport will cost $7,000 up from $5,700.
