Men charged with murder of St. Thomas businessman, freed

The two men charged with the murder of a St. Thomas businessman in November last year have been acquitted.

Clovis Christie, 27, and Keron Reid, 35, both farmers of Wheelerfield, St. Thomas, were set free on Friday.

They were charged with the murder of 52-year-old Eric Melbourne, a businessman who resided in Wheelerfield.

It was alleged that on November 10, 2019, Mr. Melbourne was driving his motorcycle on the Wheelerfield main road when he was pounced on by two men who shot him several times.

Before he died, Mr. Melbourne reportedly gave detectives the aliases of two men he claimed shot him.

Hensley Williams, the attorney for Mr. Christie and Mr. Reid submitted to the court that his clients did not use the aliases.

Mr. Williams told the court that the prosecution failed to establish a case against his clients.

The presiding judge agreed and both men were freed.
