The Ministry of Finance & The Public Service plans to to meet with trade union leaders later this week to discuss growing discontent among public sector employees over their adjusted salaries under the compensation review programme
The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) had served a ten-day ultimatum on the Ministry, alleging that it had breached the Heads of Agreement under the compensation review programme.
Radio Jamaica News spoke with JCTU President Helen Davis Whyte on Monday and she disclosed that the Ministry had scheduled the requested meeting for this Thursday, April 13.
Among the major issues of concern, she said, were "non-payment of increments over the three-year period of implementation of the compensation review, as well as the... cessasion of duty allowance that the Ministry implemented without any agreement with the unions."
Mrs Davis Whyte is insisting that some elements of the salary restructuring being implemented by the Government were not agreed by the unions.
She has warned that there could be unrest if both sides fail to reach agreement in the upcoming talks.
