NEPA investigating fish kill in Dawkins Pond, Portmore

The National Environment and Panning Agency (NEPA) is investigating another fish kill in the Dawkins Pond in Portmore, St. Cathetine.

NEPA says it received a report from residents of surrounding communities on Wednesday.

Dead fish was seen floating in the water stretching from the coast near Port Henderson Road to Edge Water.

A technical team from NEPA was also deployed to the area in June to investigate a fish kill.

After the testing of samples, it was determined that the fish died from low oxygen levels.

Richard Nelson, Senior Manager of NEPA's Environmental Management Sub-division, told Radio Jamaica News that this was due to the build-up of decaying sargassum.
